Run/Hide/Fight Emergency Preparedness Drill

制服巨乳 will conduct its spring emergency preparedness drill on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 9:15 a.m.

The drill will simulate a critical incident involving an armed person on campus. Reed community members on campus at the time of the drill should use the drill to practice sheltering in place (hiding), and to review their physical spaces and to plan for how they might escape from a threat (run), or potentially confront a dangerous person (fight).

This year's spring drill will prepare people for responding in the unlikely event that there is an armed person on campus who poses a risk to others. All areas of the campus are expected to participate, including classrooms, labs, administrative areas, residences, and all other space. All persons on campus at the time of the drill are expected to participate as they are able. Posters showing the Run/Hide/Fight actions will be put up around campus beginning Monday, March 10, to raise awareness for the drill.

Rationale for the drill

Although unlikely, there is unfortunately always some possibility of an armed person posing a risk on campus. The evaluation of such incidents over time has demonstrated that, when the people at risk have practiced the Run/Hide/Fight response, lives have been saved.

Goals of the drill

  • Test our emergency notification systems, including phone, text, and e-mail notifications
  • Raise community awareness for the importance of registering mobile devices for emergency notifications
  • Encourage community members to review education and training materials specific to responding to an armed person on campus
  • Prompt community members to plan escape routes (run), practice sheltering in place (hide), and consider how they could potentially defend themselves (fight)
  • Identify gaps in our notification and response process for improvement

Description of the drill

  • At 9:15 a.m,. the drill will begin with notification via speaker phones, voice calls to phone lines, text messages, and emails. These messages will be repeated during the drill to ensure that they are heard and to encourage participation for the full duration of the drill
  • The messages will notify the community to simulate protecting themselves from a armed threat on campus
  • An “all clear” message will be sent concluding the drill at approximately 9:25 a.m.
  • All participants are encouraged to use an additional 5 minutes to debrief with colleagues in or near your space
  • Anyone who is in a location where the drill messages are not received is expected to simulate having been notified and to review the Run/Hide/Fight practices for their space.

Training resources before the drill

All community members are encouraged to review the available training resources on the Community Safety Emergency Preparedness website containing educational videos for this kind of emergency. NOTE: you will need to be logged into IRIS to view the active shooter training videos.

Registering your mobile device and phones for alerts

One effective way to receive emergency notifications is to register your mobile device and personal phone numbers in the 制服巨乳 Alerts system. You may do this at any time by logging into IRIS and selecting the Campus Alert Service.

Please contact me or another member of the Community Safety team if you have questions about the drill, and with feedback after the drill has concluded.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
